How Scroll rewards great journalism.

We want to keep life simple and affordable for our members. That means Scroll is one flat price —$4.99 a month—no matter how much you read, watch or listen.

Thirty percent of your monthly subscription goes towards building, maintaining and improving Scroll. We always want to offer you more today than we did yesterday.

Where your subscription goes: 70% payout to the sites you read, 30% to Scroll operations.

That means up to 70% of your subscription is distributed directly to publishers, supporting the journalism we all depend on.

The way Scroll pays sites means they make significantly more than they would from putting ads and trackers on the pages you visit.

Publishers make more from Scroll than from ads and trackers. Average dollars per page view: Adblocker, $0. With ads, $0.011. With Scroll, $0.016

Fun fact: Publishing companies earn approximately $7 billion a year from showing ads to 234 million people in North America. That means that all together they make around $2.50 per person per month from ads. At a price of $4.99, Scroll can pay $3.50 to those publishers, a 40% increase over what they would have made. More money, no ads.

Distributing your subscription to the sites you read

Scroll calculates each member’s distribution individually. This means that your money goes to the sites you love and nowhere else.

Have a small favorite site you read all the time? They’ll get the majority of your subscription to Scroll.

Scroll rewards publishers based on the time you spend reading their articles. We also give publishers an additional bonus if you read their site a lot.

Out of the total time you spend on Scroll sites, the percentage of your engaged time spent on a partner site is equal to the percentage of your subscription distributed to that partner.

Countering clickbait

We want to counter the click-based incentives of advertising that have encouraged publishers to create clickbait headlines and slideshows.

By rewarding time spent reading and loyalty, not pageviews or clicks, we believe strongly that our model encourages publishers to create more engaging and meaningful journalism.

Supporting curators

With Scroll’s affiliate program, newsletters, curators, and news apps can be rewarded for sending you to great articles you love to read.

When a newsletter refers you to a Scroll article, both the newsletter curator and publisher receive payment.

We’re trying to create a better web, one that feels built for you.

That starts with putting the right economics in place for everyone to work towards a common good.

We need your help to do that.
